Learn To Care

South West

This region comprising 17 local authorities has a strong tradition of regional support for Learn to Care. National committee members include Kim Holmes,  Wiltshire Adults representative and Learn to Care national as well as southwest Chair; Professor Keith Brown, Bournemouth University who is an Associate Commitee member and Annie Draper representing Children's Social Care in the South West from Poole.

Workforce Leads face great structural and role changes, however we are maintaining an understanding of local authority workforce priorities in the region and share good practice.  We have an excellent relationship with Skills for Care in the region, whose reps attend all regional meetings and offer some financial contribution towards running costs.

Regional Learn to Care meetings include some themed presentation or activity and sharing local issues.

Keith Brown provides leadership and resourcefulness to our region, in bringing a national perspective to our discussions. We have helped with research towards publications in Leadership and Management Development for social work and social care, Recruitment and retention of Social workers, and a workbook has been developed for frontline workers to develop understanding of work with mental capacity.  These are publications available from Learn to Care website or from Bournemouth University.
